September 10 — Mindful Minute
Today, take a minute (or more) and have a conversation. A face-to-face conversation. I don’t mean one where you say, “Do you think it will rain today?” or “What do you want for dinner?” I mean a real conversation. One that starts with, “Tell me what you hope for.” Or maybe, “Do you remember a time in your childhood that changed you forever?” Small talk can get you through the day. But it is as it implies, “small.” Meaningful conversation is soulful; it is bountiful; it inspires, and it creates. Reach inside to your core and talk about what lights you up, what scares you, what makes you cry. Then ask these same questions to those with whom you want to create a connection. And listen. Listen without distractions. Real conversations don’t occur with televisions blaring in the background or cell phones pinging every minute. Real conversations occur with rapt attention, hand-holding, or walks in nature. Try it for just a few minutes and see how it makes you feel. My guess is you will feel more alive — more compassionate — and more loved. Pass the glow.
