Own Your Story
Today, take a minute (or more) and think about how to “own your story.”
We all have one. A story. One that is ours and ours only.
Yet, sometimes we don’t love our story. Our story may be attached to shame, guilt, disappointment, or fear.
If we mull over our past — we may get an uncomfortable feeling stirring in our gut. We may get a headache or feel nauseous.
This is when we push it away — file it away for later. Over the years — our story gets buried.
Sometimes, we even rewrite the story for one that is more pleasant. That can work for a while.
Maybe we drink alcohol or stay really busy with work and social engagements.
At some point, we may discover we make the same mistakes again and again. Or we mysteriously get in relationships with the same type of “wrong” person. Maybe we self-sabotage.
And then, as we get older and sit alone — we begin to feel uneasy again. We all will reach a point in our lives when we realize it is time to own it.
Understand it.
Learn from it.
Sit with it until the nausea passes.
Then, go ahead and allow the story to rise to the surface.
Own it so that it won’t continue to own you.
