Elevate Communication

Today, take a minute (or more) and think about elevating communication.

So many disagreements, misunderstandings, and frustrations stem from a lack of or just plain faulty communication skills.

Often, we carry our methods of conveying our thoughts and needs from what we learned as children.

If you grew up in a home with emotional outbursts — this might have become normal for you.

If you are easily distracted — you may be an interrupter.

Mindful listening is a great place to start. If we can make a conscious effort to listen fully — not interrupt — not even ask questions while speaking, the conversation will go more smoothly. I can’t even begin to remember how many times my daughter said, “Let me finish,” while she was growing up.

Additionally, paying attention to the speaker’s facial expressions and body language will assist us in interpreting their message accurately.

Finally, when it is our turn to speak — we need to control our emotions and choose our words carefully.

We, humans, have the gift of words — yet we often misuse them. How might you elevate your communication skills?
