August 9 — Mindful Minute
Today, take a minute (or more) and detach. The Bhagavad Gita tells us, “Detachment is not that you own nothing. Detachment is that nothing owns you.” Do you ever feel that way? Like things and people own you? Maybe the weight of your belongings keep you anchored somewhere you don’t want to be. Or maybe, people’s expectations of you prevent you from making a change. Many people believe detachment is akin to not caring. This isn’t true. We can care without being controlled. We can care without being imprisoned. We often become so attached in our relationships with others that we forget ourselves or we work feverishly to control the ones we love. Kahlil Gibran said it beautifully, “But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And, let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love.” We should not allow ourselves to be bound by love, things, or desires. Detach and feel the joy of freedom. Pass the glow.
