August 16 — Mindful Minute
Today, take a minute (or more) and change lanes. Many of us go through life staying “in our lane.” We may decide at an early age, that we’re not talented enough or smart enough to accelerate. We may be afraid to leave our small town or make our own way, letting our parents hold the steering wheel until we’re just too afraid to drive at all. You know, it’s so comfortable to just drive in the slow lane, behind the guidance of a big truck. This type of driving doesn’t require much thinking, and before we know it, we are on autopilot. But then, after a while, the pace feels stifling, and we start to feel frustrated. We can’t see around the truck, and it’s going so slow. We begin to feel anxious. We begin to feel stuck. This is when we know it’s time to switch gears and change lanes. But everyone else is moving so fast. How do we get over? What if someone runs us down? What if we get lost? How will we keep up? But the bigger question is, how can we not relax the grip on the wheel and push the accelerator a little harder? Otherwise, we are not going to get to the finish line. Go ahead, be brave, be fearless; change lanes, and change your life.
